I just wanted to say, I really like the bricks hint
27th December 2024 at 10:27 pm #994029KNo1ParticipantFirst 3 lines is interesting.. Is this right?
But are you talking about analyzing trigrams or 1-grams?
Also, am I on the right track???
Harry feel free to comment!28th December 2024 at 9:37 am #99407someoneParticipant9KNo1 i thought the frequency analysis for tri-grams looked promising but ii don’t think my code actually works
28th December 2024 at 6:56 pm #99415MeeraParticipantI still don’t understand what the ||| or the \\\ or the /// means since it doesn’t point to anything… I tried a frequency analysis of them all, but nothing seems to stand out.
Does anyone have any hints for this?
AND ALSO, PLS CAN SOMEONE HELP WITH PART A, I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE KEY IS. I HAVE TRIED USING THE ENTIRE QUOTATION OF “THE BEST LAID PLANS…” BUT IT DOESNT WORK. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE GIVE A LITTLE HINT, IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED 🙏🙏 IS THE CIPHER LAYERED??
28th December 2024 at 6:58 pm #99416someoneParticipantPlease anyone who has solved part B give a good hint. I don’t understand ANY of the hints in the case files and now no more clues will be released so i’m becoming hopeless. I don’t understand – i got maximum score for Part A and Part B all the way up to chapter 10 but now i lost like 100 points for part A and am currently loosing 200 points for part B. Please Harry give a clue that is not obscure. 🙁
Please don’t be too discouraged. Challenge 10 is meant to be hard. If you look carefully at the latest clue there is something new there that should point you in the right direction with a little research. Of course, you will have to figure out what the \,|,/ symbols are doing, but once you understand what 10.8 is telling you, you might be able to work that out! Good luck, Harry
28th December 2024 at 9:07 pm #99418someoneParticipantMeera for 10A, note – the keyword is not a word in Robert Burns phrase, but it is a word that metaphorically describes it. [Edited by Harry]. Harry censor as much as you want.
28th December 2024 at 9:08 pm #99419ILLParticipantHey Harry, I think I have a good idea of what the first cipher used is [Edited by Harry, but don’t read anything into that!] and from the clues and my own knowledge I have everything to go after. However, I can’t seem to find a key that gives a total number of Bigrams less than 27 or more. Please can you or others give a hint or method other than an incredibly long code to find the thing that works. Seriously, I beg of you, just for that!
[Moderators feel free to censor it, as usual]

28th December 2024 at 10:47 pm #99420MeeraParticipantIs it layered? I have tried many keywords I thought it must be but they all keep giving me a weird output. Is there another step that I am missing?
29th December 2024 at 12:00 pm #99302someoneParticipantAnjiniM that is what i thought but it seems rather odd that the text would be 7056 characters long(if we substituted chunks of 3 into letters). I believe there is an extra layer of encryption or i am just missing something. Harry might not let this through but in each section of 7056, there is exactly 2352 of each character and in each of those sections there is exactly 784 of each character and so on(roughly).
29th December 2024 at 2:46 pm #99421The_BombeParticipantFor part A, look at Case File 10.1. What is it? Not adjectives, just nouns. That will give you a clue about which cipher it is.
29th December 2024 at 2:46 pm #99422The_BombeParticipantIs it the same research needed for Challenge 9?
29th December 2024 at 2:47 pm #99423Un_bâton_de_colleParticipantWill there be any more hints on the Case Files after 10.8?Harry?
Might be! Will have to wait and see. Will be a bit more relaxed about publishing hints here in the Forum now. Have fun, Harry
29th December 2024 at 2:48 pm #99424DrPrasad_13ParticipantGood Afternoon, Harry,
For 10B, I still do not understand the cipher. I know what it is but there is something about it that seems confusing. I feel that it deformed or twisted in some way that our eyes may not capture. May we please get some advice (as all the case files have been sent)?
Many thanks,
Regards,
DanikaThanks for getting in touch Danika. I would step back and ask yourself: If I were Ada, Babbage and Wheatstone and I wanted to invent something like the cipher alluded to in Casefile 10.8, and I wanted to transmit it using my needle telegraph, what would I do? Hope that helps, Harry
29th December 2024 at 9:15 pm #994289KNo1ParticipantDear Harry,
Are you insinuating that it is not in fact the cipher very clearly alluded to in 10.8. If so, do you have any further pointers. I am getting nowhere!
Thanks
9KNo1I don’t THINK that’s what I was saying! Harry
29th December 2024 at 9:16 pm #99429FelixQualtroughParticipantmeera, Maybe a quICk googlE seArch might help to uNravel the mystery? Do use the starting point of the puzzle, it May hElp give you hope aNd aid
