    Hey, everbuddy!

The transcription of Gaines’s book is done, and now we need volunteers to proof-read. If you are willing, your duties will be to compare the transcript to images of the pages, and your reward will be an advance copy of the book’s PDF when all of the formatting is finished. Everbuddy else will have to wait until next NCC season to get a copy, which Harry can put in the BOSS library, or find a paper copy, which will probably go on Amazon.

By posting this post, Harry agrees to mediate and distribute the proofs and collect error reports, and to distribute the final PDF when it is finished. Wha ha ha ha.

OK, the deal is this: if you want to volunteer to do this then email me so I can send you a section to proof read. You agree to check the section against the scan of the original version (which you can download already from the library) and to send me a list of corrections, by email, before December 19th. If you can’t reasonably do it before then, then please don’t volunteer. We quite understand, but it will hold things up and someone else will probably be able to do it instead. Anyone who completes the task on time will be sent the revised version by email (perhaps via a link).

I am looking forward to seeing this myself, Harry

On that subject, there’s a typo on p31 of your Vigenere book: “differenc”

It’s just madness channelling his inner George Perec, Harry

To clarify, is it “CRYPTANALYSIS | a study of ciphers and their solution” by Helen Fouché Gaines?

And if so, how many pages are we expected to do?

How large should we expect these sections to be? Thinking about volunteering but it would be nice to have a better estimate of how long it will take me.

@upsidedown, Thanks for the typo. Will fix soon.

@everbuddy_else, there are about 250 pages. So if there are 25 volunteer, there are 10 pages each. I think it takes about an hour to do that much carefully. I have already done my *a-hem* best to check all of the pages.

@upsidedown, there should be a reward for finding typos, but I’m not sure what it should be. A PDF file? An awesome hint for 7B?

Edited by Harry – the first part of this post is fine, but nearly didn’t publish because of the second part! You can’t publish a hint that big this early in a round!!!!!

@Harry / @_madness_ Happy to volunteer if we are talking around 10 pages or so. I’ll drop you an email via the Contact Us link.

@Harry, I dropped you a message by email on [email protected] last Friday. I haven’t seen a reply. If the proof-reading is to be complete for the 19th Dec, I assume you have had enough volunteers already??? If not, I am still happy to help, just conscious of time-ticking.

Thanks for the prompt. I was waiting to get a few more volunteers before distributing the text, but now I think about it I am not sure why! I did send out emails yesterday so if anyone contacted me and still didn’t hear back yet, please do get back in touch to join the team. Thanks again to all our volunteers. Harry
