This time I’m stuck on 8B. After updating my program several times, I won’t be able to submit before the dead line. My problem is:the first or the last dead line?

8th December 2024 at 10:17 am #98811merryxmasParticipantany clues for 8B??
8th December 2024 at 10:18 am #98818upsidedownParticipantmaybe my username will help
8th December 2024 at 12:30 pm #98828JapaninjaParticipantIn regards to 8b, case file 7.3 is what gave me the inspiration on how to solve it. Hopefully it might help you too. Meanwhile I am still stumped on A haha
8th December 2024 at 12:53 pm #98835KC_TigerParticipantWhat do you mean by ‘upside down’?
I think the case file (8.1) and the message from 8A refer to a digit from the pair of Polybius co-ordinates getting cut off since there is a cross on one of the heads of Orthus. For those of you who have already decoded 8A, I believe that the reference of Janus also links to this idea.
However, I do not know what you mean by this, as it makes things confusing to work out – i.e. do I have to alternate between the start of the ciphertext and the end, or reverse it? I would really appreciate it if you could clarify this because I think this is the clue I am missing as the tips for 8A also say something similar.
Thank you!
I don’t think anyone said the Case File was a hint for 8B! Jodie
8th December 2024 at 8:41 pm #98832Sofia_Dey_ChoudhuryParticipantFor 8B, does it have anything to do with Orthus, or the text? Because the translation doesn’t seem to have anything useful..
9th December 2024 at 10:13 pm #98858The_Pi-thon_PersonParticipantIve solved 8B easily but i cant for the life of me figure out which cipher 8A is! Ive tried all the normal ones and even combined some but im getting nowhere! I know its ironic as 8B is supposed to be more challenging, but any hints for 8A would be grately appreciated!
9th December 2024 at 10:13 pm #98859The_Pi-thon_PersonParticipantive just got it, and yes im kicking myself -_-
9th December 2024 at 10:14 pm #98866Diya_GadiaParticipantDO we get point for solving 8A? or is it just Part B’s? thanks,
Yes, both parts are scored, but independently. Only part B scores count when considering prize winners and medals, but you can download certificates for each part and challenge you attempt. Harry
9th December 2024 at 10:15 pm #98871MeeraParticipantHi!
Could someone recommend what we should try and do first? Do you think we should try and solve Part A or B first? My team and I are struggling with both parts, so any advice as to where to start would be great thx!
Actually, we kinda got somewhere with Part A, but half of it was decoded and the rest was just gibberish! So, we got very confused…
Any help would be extremely helpful! Thank you! 🙏
10th December 2024 at 7:05 pm #98892MeeraParticipantDid anyone else have the problem that the answer to Part A was half completed? Did you have to do more than 1 step and not just use 1 type of cipher?
Pls, I am rlly confused!! 🫤
11th December 2024 at 11:49 am #98895ByteInBitsParticipantFor those still struggling in dismay, well done for your staying with it, now. . .
For 8A you should back off a little and look at the ciphertext from a different direction then you can give it the V treatment.
For 8B see my hint for 7B.11th December 2024 at 11:49 am #98897upsidedownParticipanterenegiv
11th December 2024 at 8:49 pm #98916UpForAChallengeParticipantI don’t know if this is allowed but are there any hint on the keyword? I have tried a few cribs but have been unsuccessful.
