what do you mean by the number of needles?

Hello we have found a lot of interesting things but we are now stuck and do not understand how to continue. The case file from today told us something we already new a long time ago and we think that it will be the same for a couple next case file. The first case file could maybe be a little more complex and advanced to keep it fun.
Can you give us a more advanced case file if possible?
    Thank you

You have three weeks to solve it, so we are in no hurry to give out advanced clues! Best wishes, Harry

I have to say that I’m as stumped as everyone else on this thread but I have to appreciate the decent banter in the comments from Harry. Thanks for the challenge and good luck to anyone (like me) who is still trying.

Glad to hear it. You never know when inspiration will strike. Harry

10B So far I’m struggling with this one.
More code scribbling, more copy and pasting of ideas but getting nowhere fast!
All wonderfully interrupted by home and away visits of family, friends and neighbours.

Terrific fun, but should carry a mental health warning!

I am tempted to put “Terrific fun, but should carry a mental health warning!” on the poster next year, but really glad you are enjoying it. Harry

Really appreciate the fact that whilst we are staying up late ruining our sleep schedules, someone is still approving these forum submissions. Kudos to you guys and good luck to everyone who is still awake, wrestling with /,\ and |.

Thanks, last one for the night I think, the Elves need to get their rest before Tuesday. Night all, Harry

Do you have any clues? I think we’ve got the code out of dashes correctly, but we’ve been completely stuck from there

Hi, Is there a double encryption on the 10 B – like telegraph and something else? Or is it straightforward? And, is Francis Galton’s Telotype relevant to 10B?

Harry, I already know the ratio ( before the Case Files come out ) between / | \ is 1:1:1 so I have suspect that the 10B is a Wheatstone’s telegraph but 2 three needles one.But it doesn’t seem to work when I split them into threes. Am I talking complete non sense or am I on the right track? Please answer and hopefully you will let this out!Pls

Its very interesting how each character appears the same number of times…

i meant have the number of needles that represent one letter (last week they were 6) – have they changed?

You tell me! (But not on a public forum! Harry

Is 10B a letter that has been encoded using the telegraph or is it simply what is seen on the other side of the telegraph system?

    Case file 10.2

Well that is no help at at all, I would guess everyone has already got that!
    Symbol Frequencies
    \ (7056), / (7056), | (7056)

    My thoughts
Yes each has the same amount of occurrences, spacing cannot be rearranged to give 6 or even 5 needle code.
We are dealing with just 3 values, so this is nothing to do with Wheatstones needle code, it was just used to send the message as is given.
I think the symbols must be substituted placeholders it looks more promising using 1,2,3 and then regrouping to make numbers, but then what?
I have tried Morse code in all forms to no avail (staying within time date 1800’s of what ciphers were available back then)

For 3 needle telegraph need each trigram to have a vertical bar? Does that mean would need to transpose the ciphertext first?

the ratio seems to stay true for certain amounts could it just be a ——– then a ——————-
