Help. We are stuck on one crucial part.

    Is it part B? Harry

Yes! We’re stuck on knowing the key for a certain part of the cipher. Currently bruteforcing and trying lots of potential keys, but haven’t made too much progress. Starting to doubt if the cipher even works in the way we think it does…

Its good to know I am not the only one slogging away in the trenches. 🙂

does anyone know if the cipher used has to be in the book on classical cryptography by madness or can it be any cipher – i think i may be onto something but its not in any of the books

That, if you don’t mind me saying, is entirely the point of Challenge 10B! Harry

We have nearly made it to the end and our team will doubtless be relieved when (and if) we find a solution. I loved your 10A clue as well, though I still don’t understand the two-headed dog picture.

I think I can put 10B into English letters, and I have found some patterns (I won’t state them) but can’t relate them to any of the tried-and-tested ciphers, so I thought this would be something not seen before. Is it a weird modification of an already existing cipher like in previous years, or something newly invented altogether?

The dog was a reference to Orthus, the two headed Greek god that is regarded as the closest equivalent to Janus. The crossed out head was looking right, suggesting that you should read the cipher text from the left. Cruel, I know, Harry

Is the 10B clue out?? I can’t see it on the case files only the one of the ford key. Where’s the two headed dog?

The hints for 10B will be published at midday (there is a schedule in the Tips link on the Challenge 10B page). The two headed dog was a reference to Case File 8.1. Sorry for any confusion. Harry
