Another fabulous sudoku

Recommended by the amazing team at Cracking the Cryptic here is another fantastic sudoku puzzle, Ascension by Florian Wortmann, in which NONE of the numbers in the grid is supplied. Instead there are a couple of interesting additional rules concerning the placement of numbers which together completely define the grid. You can watch Simon break it on Youtube below, or try it yourself on Sven’s SudokuPad at https://sudokupad.app/4umjglf7z5.

Mathematically the rules are given by a family of ten equations and the classic “knights move” rule that says no two squares a knights move apart can contain the same number, so a large number of non-equalities.

I was introduced by the knights move rule in a previous classic “The Miracle Sudoku” by Mitchell Lee, one of my all time favourites. There is really is something miraculous about the fact that such a simple rule can carry so much information, but I guess that is how mathematics works.

Enjoy!
